Why I need the Holy Spirit

Lord I hear of showers of blessings,
Thou art scattering full and free.
Showers of thirsty, land refreshing,
Let some drops now fall on me.

Even me Lord, even me.
Even me Lord, even me,
let some drops now fall on me.
Chorus
Vamp 1:
Showers of blessings,
fall down on us.

Shower,
rain on us,
rain on us,
fall down
oh, oh, oh, oh.

This is one of my favorite songs ever. It's an old, but goodie. For me, it exemplifies the needy believer's plea for God's presence in our lives. Some people think blessings are material matter, but not necessarily.

In my life, the richest blessing is that of the Holy Spirit. I crave God's presence in my life. I long for that still small voice that speaks to my heart and stirs praise in my spirit. He's the catalyst of my growth, learning, confidence and understanding. As He convicts me, disciplines me, I learn to follow the paths of righteousness. I learn God's statutes.

His comfort reaches past the facades, the smiles and the "I'm ok" and touches me at the most vulnerable place in my soul. He restoreth my soul.

He guides, directs and tells me which way to go when confusion plagues me. When options are overwhelming, He says "This is the way to go".

Yes, Lord, shower me with your blessings. May I be compelled to know you more, drawn to experience your grace in depth, develop in your discipline and cherish your blessings.

Your happiness...yes, that's for me.

Your faith has saved you!

Faith - the reinforcement of your life!
Guard your faith.

Have you ever thought about how valuable your faith i?  You know, the ability to hope, to rely on and wholly trust in Jesus.  The enemy of our souls is after our faith. He understands its worth. Faith paralyzes him where as doubt empowers the kingdom of hell.

The Bible mentions the shield of faith "which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one".  No wonder he has a spiritual bullseye on your faith! Your faith is powerful, priceless and crucial for spiritual warfare.

Remember when Jesus told Peter how the enemy wanted to destroy him? In Luke 22:32, He says:

"...But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail."

Funny, that Jesus didn't say something like "I prayed that Satan would leave you alone" or "I prayed you'd be able to understand things".  No, He said "...that your faith not fail". This should be our prayer in times of struggle.

So, guard your faith. Ignore the whispers of the enemy that try to make you doubt and question God's promises.  Fight Him with the Word of God when he threatens your Godly confidence, when he challenges your Godly choices or when he smirks at your lifestyle.  His wicked voice may come from friends, mates, logic or even the pulpit.  Refute it, ignore it...no...don't ignore it! Battle it with the Word of God! Knock it down in Jesus name!

Know your Word, Know Your God and hold on to your faith in Jesus!

Praying the Word of God builds your faith
and ensures you are praying according to

Keep that Christian mess...I mean theology!

In my quiet time, I discovered that I had assumed too many of life's burdens. In other words, I had grown consumed with worry. If I told you what I was struggling with behind these words, your jaw would drop. If I shared what struggles I worship and smile in spite of, you'd likely be amazed. But, I won't, because there is no praise-worthiness in sharing such troubles. After all, we all have them.

But, during my quiet time, the Holy Spirit showed me that I had taken on burdens that I was never designed to carry myself. Not only that, I had assumed a weak - almost pitiful - Christian posture based on an intellectual experience [with God] rather than a spiritual, powerful-laden, supernatural faith.

So many times, Christians try to reason, understand, and figure out God and how He moves within the earth. This is futile, silly and often a tool of the enemy. You see, in our attempts to figure God out, we become confused and drawn away from the fiery, real-time power of the Holy Spirit. You can't walk in earthly intellect and faith at the same time - the two just don't go together.

In our begging, pleading and whining, we forget that God's promises are for US TODAY (not the newspaper) and not limited to some ancient, mystical figures in the scriptures. We can stand on God's word and assert an authority (given by Jesus) that will make the Kingdom of Hell shudder and impact lives for Christ.

So, for those who are stuck in the quagmire of intellectual malaise - you keep it. In the meantime, you will find me standing strong in the power of Jesus and claiming my inheritance as a joint-heir in Christ. Keep your “whys”, your “but in the Greek it means”…I don't need it and will likely just laugh at you.

I will live in the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit and His real- almost can touch Him- experience in my life. For then and only then I can be a true blessing to the Body of Christ and speak a powerful word to encourage you in your times of pain and trouble.

You get only what you have faith for, so you choose - Victory or Logic. Sometimes, it really is a choice. For instance, Jesus spitting in a bunch of dirt and rubbing in on people was not logical - but it was victorious for the blind man that received sight. Choose today, Godsy Girl. Will you take Him at His word or try to figure Him out intellectually with man-made tools?  I think you know what I choose!

Lust and the Mature Christian

Well, today the news broke.

Another famous celebrity figure ( Arnold Schwarzenegger) has betrayed the vows of his marriage, ventured to have sex with another woman and fathered a child with a member of the household staff.

The situation is enough to break the heart of any married woman. So sad. It is sad something so avoidable can still occur and break so many families into millions of pieces.

Avoidable? You didn’t know it was avoidable? Oh yes, like any sin, people have choices. Non-Christians may not have the power (of the Holy Spirit), but they do have the choice.

Lust is a spiritual ailment many preachers do not talk about on Sunday mornings. This is a huge mistake because the Word of God is about more than spiritual redemption by our loving Savior. It is also a spiritual blueprint directing us how to handle sin and temptation in our daily lives. The beauty is that it doesn’t just tell us, it shows us vivid examples and tools to manage the spiritual power of the Holy Spirit.

The Bible says lust is the precursor for sin. Check it out: “but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” James 1: 14-15

How we feel about the opposite sex is cultivated in our own minds. It’s linked to what we watch (television), what we think about (imagine), and even the music we listen to – all these shape our thinking and musings.

I had done things my way for long enough and knew God’s way had to be better than mine. So, I was determined to live holy and real before God. I knew that God would not tell me (in His word) to live without sex outside marriage without giving me the strength and power to resist it – but I had a responsibility in the process as well.

As a single woman, I learned early in my journey that I couldn’t watch love scenes on television. Watching those scenes reminded me of past experiences and launched lustful desires. Here are some of the practices that helped me finally walk in victory over lust and pre-marital sex:

1. Not too much alone time with him. Being alone with a gorgeous guy awakes desires and wants…you know what I mean, Girl.
2. No kissing. This was a difficult one, but like being alone with that hottie, kissing him awakes desires and launches behaviors that could lead to a progression toward sin. I was tired of sin reigning in my life
3. Love songs. For me, love songs can put two people (attracted to one another) in the mood for sex. So, Luther had to go….even while I was just driving in the car alone.

This may sound drastic, but I needed something drastic to empower me to be true to my God and His laws. Sex before marriage is sin and God doesn’t like it and won’t save me from it’s consequences.

Further, I knew obedience to Him brings blessings, while disobedience brings the curse of guilt and spiritual death.

You know what. I found that God had something so much better for me than I could ever have imagined or gained playing “house” with some guy. I’m sorry, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt I could not have accepted it if I had allowed my desires to control me.

So many single women want an authentically Godly man. (Yes, they are out there). Nevertheless, many of them are not willing to compromise themselves for a woman that cannot even control her body. Similarly, many truly, for real, Godly woman feel the same way – the last thing they need is some weak, lusty man to share their life with….remember, it’s all about choices.

Perfect, I am not. Made lots of mistakes. However, none after I employed the “Top 3” listed above. It really helped me. And praise God, I (finally) learned that giving away my body was a huge mistake and barrier to my own self image. I pray every woman of God, every woman of Christian maturity learns the same.

Don't forget: God is the God of another chance. It's never too late to start over. Read 2 Corinthians 7:10. Lord knows, I needed lots of chances, but praise Jesus for sustained victory over my desires! God will keep you, if you want to be kept. You will have to say "no", you will have to deny yourself and you will have to walk away when everything in you wants to stay in his arms...but you can do it by the power of Jesus Christ.

Healing in the Body and the Spirit

The human body has an amazing ability to heal itself. It's fascinating!

If you cut your finger, your body
will do it's work to mend the laceration. In some cases, you may need to treat the wound to aid or accelerate the healing process. You may apply a bandage, cream or something; but in the end, the body does most of the work.

Ironically, a spiritual wound is altogether different. This type of wound requires the healing power or prayer, God's word and a little time.

Turn to God's word for healing. Read it and seek it's truth. Use it as a balm or spiritual ointment that ignites your faith and hope.

Bring your "hurt" to God as many times as needed, for as long as needed to be whole again. Talk to Him. Tell Him everything. Sure, He knows it all, but your faith is ignited as you go to Him as your Source. God moves by faith.

Read the Psalms until you find one that soothes your hurt. Don't give up. His word is alive and after a while, you'll happen upon just the right verse for your aching spirit.

Hang in there and remember time heals nothing; only God is your Healer! Be whole on Jesus name!
