Who's Got the Power? - Jesus Christ has the final verdict in your life!

"Do not trust a neighbor; put no confidence in a friend….”

“But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.”  Micah 7:5-8

I know, I know, I didn't the unthinkable. I pulled a scripture out in “pieces,” but actually, that's how I read it this morning. Really! The words seemed to be highlighted on my page like in a movie or as if some heavenly light was shining on them.

“Who's Your Daddy?”
Have you noticed how easy it is to focus on "stuff" in our lives and forget they are merely blessings from the Great One? For instance, we can easily take our homes for granted; just drive up, get out and forget the blessing it really is. Especially with the pain in Japan, I am deeply touched by God's mercy and grace on those "unharmed" by disaster. Understand: God has a special grace for those who call on Him in time of trouble. However, that's not what I'm talking about here.  Stay with me.

Think of your car and how it takes you to and fro almost effortlessly. You turn the key and it just “starts.” Easily to take for granted.

Doctor "Schmoctor"
Or your doctor? Think of how physicians study the body (shaped by God) and direct us toward healthy practices and remedies. These things (and people) are simply created resources supplied by a gracious God. He alone holds every one of our bodily cells into place.
He alone is the source of all good things in our lives. The Creator of everything - only HE occupies that esteemed position in the universe. He alone keeps your heart beating, your lungs expanding, and your home from danger. Shucks, I even believe He keeps your car from needing expensive repairs and your clothes from wearing out. Think of the children of Israel and read Malachi 3:11.

He has everything you need!
He is your Savior, your mind-regulator and the basis for everything you need and have the benefit of using. If you get a bad medical report, fix your hope in the Source. Lose your job; re-align your expectations onto the Living God. Marriage falling apart? Trust the Mender of broken hearts. He's your Everything!

Eyes upward...
Keep your eyes focused on God and HIS role as Jehovah Jireh in your life. Your car is nice, but without God's provision, you'd be walking. For those walking: your legs are great, but without God giving you the ability to walk, you couldn't get to where you need to be. Your job is a blessing, but the very job that gets on your nerves is a divine provision many would dream of having. He's your faithful Supplier!

I'm not finished...
The husband that makes your skin itch from time to time is someone's dream. Thank God for him. Someone out there would trade places with you so fast that your head would spin.  Sure, your children may bring some stress, but somewhere a woman wishes she had your “kid” problem. Seriously.

Think about it. God has provided beautifully for your life. His promises outweigh anything that can be said or happen on this earth. He has the final verdict and the power to make crooked roads straight! Praise Him for it all and take nothing for granted today. He's in wondrous control.

Getting through the bad times...

God asks:
"Will you praise me through the hard times? Disappointments? Troubles? Grief? Doubt? Loneliness and fear?"

Worship frees your spirit and re-aligns your focus on to the might of your God. In the most difficult of life's distresses, don't neglect your worship. Force it. Push through the pain and magnify the only one with your solution, help and refuge.

Why should we pray?

Charles Hadden Spurgeon said "prayer is always the preface to a blessing." I'm not “big” on using the word “always”, but the quote made me think.

Have you ever thought about it? Have you ever pondered the indubitable honor and distinct privilege to approach God in prayer? It's a holy moment not limited by space, distance, or time. What's better, the very second you call, the very Creator of heaven, earth and everything in between directs His attention to you. It's a mind-boggling concept, yet, one we often take shamelessly for granted.

The Source of Everything…
It is through prayer that God's blessings flow from the heavenly realm; it is through prayer that intimacy with your Heavenly Father is cultivated and matured. It is through prayer that your anxious spirit is quieted, soothed, and healed. Prayer is the superhighway, the transport of every good and perfect thing in your life.

Still, it is one of the most neglected of Christian disciplines. When you think about it, it's really a sad testament to our dispensation how we misuse the privilege grace granted us. Generations of Christians dreamed for access to the throne of God and it sits within our reach unused and under-utilized. Shame on us if we should ever take this privilege for granted, or worse, neglect to see the power in this gift.

Spurgeon believed prayer to be the very catalyst to blessing. I agree and I take it a bit further to say prayer, in itself, is a blessing. Although, God doesn't wait for us to pray for what we need, He does move as we pray. James said it this way "you have not because you ask not".

The grace and blessing you enjoy this very minute could be the direct result of a petition(s) someone else sent to the heavenlies on your behalf. Maybe, you're the result the prayers of your mother, father, grandparents, friends or even ancestors. Who knows?

Just remember, you are only as strong as your prayer life, Godsy Girl. Think of prayer as healthy food. If you eat a little, your strength is limited, but if you eat good, wholesome food regularly, you have energy, stamina and a strong immune system (ouch! Maybe that's why I have caught so many colds!)

Anyhow...you get my point. You can pray to the most important Person in the universe and know He hears. Take full advantage of your VIP pass and spend some time in meaningful prayer this week.

James 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 pray without ceasing;
